About Us
We are always looking for volunteers to help out at the History Centre. Please contact us for more information or to register as a volunteer. Phone: 780-439-2794 or E-mail: info@historycentre.ca. (Please note, the History Centre is on the third floor with no elevator access.)
The work of the History Centre is designed to support the delivery of knowledge, outcomes and historical thinking skills as outlined in the new social studies curriculum by offering engaging and interactive programs for grades 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11. Through a variety of sessions, we offer teachers and students a unique opportunity to experience Alberta's and Canada's history. The knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff and volunteers bring to life the history of our First Nation's and Métis people, the fur trade, Canadian explorers and land surveyors, the NWMP, building the railway and early homesteading. Our sessions include photographs, artifacts, crafts, game simulations, models and story telling. Programs for grades 4 and 5 are held at the Queen Alexandra History Centre, while History on the Road provides sessions in your classroom for grades 7, 8, 10 and 11.
We are offering special Monday sessions on "Edmonton's Past" for Grade 2 !
No online registration is available for Grade 2, so please
email to make your booking - info@historycentre.ca.
The Queen Alexandra History Centre is staffed with personnel from Edmonton Public Schools, the Edmonton and District Historical Society and Concordia College. Various partnering agencies, including the Edmonton and District Historical Society, Old Strathcona Foundation, Edmonton Public Schools, Historical Society of Alberta, and the Alberta Land Surveyors' Association; and institutions such as, the Provincial Archives of Alberta, the City of Edmonton Archives and the City of Fort Saskatchewan have contributed to the History Centre. Additional financial support has been provided by the Phyllis Arnold Learning Fund, Hudson Bay Company, Swarm Enterprises, plus other companies and individuals. Of course, we couldn't offer our sessions without our dedicated group of retired teachers and volunteers!
